Constructed to meet the rising demand for whisky, particularly for blending purposes, Auchroisk's primary role was to supply malt whisky for the J&B blend, one of the most popular blended Scotch whiskies globally. Designed with modern production techniques, the distillery reflected the advancements in distillation technology of the 1970s. They first bottled a single malt in 1986 as 'The Singleton of Auchroisk'.
Established early in 1994, Murray McDavid is a leading Independent Scotch whisky bottler. They use a variety of interesting casks during maturation to produce Inspired Scotch Whisky. Their ranges available include the Benchmark series, Mystery Malts, Cask Craft and select Grain bottlings.
This bottling is part of their ‘Cask Craft’ range of single malts from across Scotland, artfully matured in a variety of wood types, displaying fines balance of oak and spirit.
This single malt from Auchroisk Distillery has a sweet malt character, notes of light citrus fruits with hint of mixed nuts. The use of a Bourbon Quarter cask brings an influence of creamy vanilla, caramel tropical fruit with sweet spice. Using these compact quarter casks from Koval Distillery quickly mellows the Auchroisk spirit. This produces a creamy and sweet whisky full of fresh flavours of vanilla, crisp apple, sweet mango with honied cereal.
Tasting Rating Guide
1: Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan
2: Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn
3: A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan
4: A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
