Established in 1823, Auchentoshan Distillery, a Lowland distillery, was originally constructed by a local corn merchant named John Bulloch. Now owned by Beam Suntory, the distillery is located at the foot of the Old Kilpatrick Hills on the outskirts of Clydebank in West Dunbartonshire. People sometimes call Auchentoshan's whisky 'the breakfast whisky' because of the malt's sweetness and delicacy. This delicacy is comes from Auchentoshan's use of triple distillation - a rare choice for a Scottish distillery.
Auchentoshan triple distill every last drop of this spectacular scotch and mature it for over twelve years. This Lowland Single Malt Whisky has the tempting aroma of toasted almonds, caramelised toffee and the signature smooth delicate Auchentoshan taste. A 12 year old whisky with a distinctive and intriguing distillation process.
Official Tasting Notes
Colour - In appearance, each bottle has a crisp golden honey hue. The colouring of this whisky is a result of the maturing process over 12 years as the liquid comes into contact with the barrel. The longer a whisky matures will determine its colour and flavour profile.
Nose - A Single Malt Scotch whisky with a distinctive aroma of crème brulee to the nose with a burst of citrus and then the signature nuttiness and green leafiness you would expect from Auchentoshan.
Taste - A smooth whisky taste with sweet notes along with hints of tangerine and lime characterise this 12 year old.
Finish - This particular whisky offers a gingery and slightly dry finish with a pleasant, lingering nuttiness.
Tasting Rating Guide
1: Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan
2: Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn
3: A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan
4: A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
