Established in 1823, Auchentoshan Distillery, a Lowland distillery, was originally constructed by a local corn merchant named John Bulloch. Now owned by Beam Suntory, the distillery is located at the foot of the Old Kilpatrick Hills on the outskirts of Clydebank in West Dunbartonshire. People sometimes call Auchentoshan's whisky 'the breakfast whisky' because of the malt's sweetness and delicacy. This delicacy is comes from Auchentoshan's use of triple distillation - a rare choice for a Scottish distillery.
Light, good for beginners - an aperitif on a summers day, i.e. Glengoyne, Auchentoshan
Also good for beginners but with more depth and body - a little stronger than 1, ie. Glenmorangie, Speyburn
A dram for everyone, a little more complex so the palate requires a little more experience, i.e. Cragganmore, Macallan
A stronger spirit, a big whisky with lots of character and body, excellent after dinner, i.e. Lagavulin, Laphroaig
